Children With Disabilities
Parentline works closely with a number of government and non-government disability agencies across Queensland.
Parentline staff work closely with community services and regularly attend Disability Services Local Area Network meetings. We hear directly about the issues affecting families raising children with a disability. We promote Parentline to disability service providers across Queensland, and regularly deliver presentations to government departments, community agencies and community members.
Parents and carers of children with a disability often face tremendous challenges in raising their children and advocating on their behalf to access general services and specialised support services. Parentline counsellors understand many of the challenges facing parents and carers in today's society. Community services tell us that access to such counselling will be invaluable to families they support.
Parents and carers can also undertake positive parenting training through the Stepping Stones Triple P Program in the comfort of their own home and at their own pace, with the assistance of an experienced, accredited Parentline counsellor.
Stepping Stones Triple P is an adaptation of the Positive Parenting Program (Triple P), tailored to the needs of parents of a child with a disability. It is a joint initiative of the Parenting and Family Support Centre at The University of Queensland and the Disability Services Commission in Western Australia.
