- There are more than 1.4 million families in Queensland and the Northern Territory
- During 2008, Parentline answered more than 15,500 telephone calls from parents and carers across Queensland and the Northern Territory
- Parentline predominantly receives calls from parents and carers, plus a small number of grandparents, foster carers, other relatives, family friends, neighbours and professionals involved with children (e.g. teachers)
- While the age range of callers is broad, ranging from teenagers to 85 year olds, the average age is 37 years. Consistent with national help-seeking trends, females make up the majority of Parentline clients (87%)
- Eighty per cent of Parentline callers phone with concerns about a child ranging from newborn babies up to adult children
- In a recent survey 96 per cent of Parentline clients expressed satisfaction with the service with 89 per cent of those surveyed finding their call effective or very effective
- Parent education has been recognised as offering the potential to address pressing issues such as child abuse, adolescent social problems, school failure and youth violence
- Parentline is a joint initiative of BoysTown, the Queensland Government and the Northern Territory Government
